DECOLONIZING OUR ASPIRATIONS

REINVIGORATING OUR SPIRIT & REALIGNING OUR INTENTIONS

originally released 11 November 2020

The past couple of weeks have been a bit of an anxiety-ridden rollercoaster. And then, on Saturday here in New York, it felt like the entire city took a collective sigh of relief and spontaneously erupted in a kind of 24-hour block party or music festival. The energy was joyous and the weather was beautiful and I think we all desperately needed that moment of celebration to reinvigorate our spirit. But we always knew this election would only be the beginning - there's still an incredible amount of work to be done. And the reality of the results has only accentuated this fact - from the painfully high percentages of white women who voted for Trump, to the administration's refusal to acknowledge defeat over the last few days. This was not at all the landslide repudiation that may have confirmed a real cultural shift in the country. Instead, we received proof that nearly half of the population, in some way, embraces/excuses racism. So from here, how do we move forward?

I definitely don't have all the answers - I'm still working through this myself - but I do think that we each have latent potential to initiate change, in our own ways.* The systemic issues we are facing can feel overwhelming, but we each have our own strengths and convictions that can help create real change - we don't all need to do everything.

*This in addition to the clear need for us to each really take stock of our personal relationships - family and friends - and commit to having consistent, intentional conversations with those who don't fully understand the issues at hand.

I'd highly encourage delving into this free workbook with journaling questions, or at least taking a look at the map and role descriptions to consider how they align with your personal intentions and goals.

I also believe that caring for ourselves and our own personal wellbeing is an important aspect of creating change. It's imperative for us to foster positive energy within ourselves, if we hope to create positive change in the world around us. On that note, the products I'm sharing today are oriented towards reinvigorating our spirit and realigning our intentions. (There's also a lot to be discussed in how 'wellness' has been colonized and commodified - but saving that for another email)
