DECOLONIZING OUR ASPIRATIONS
BLACK HISTORY MONTH | THE IMPACT INITIATIVE
originally released 1 February 2021
This week, Revisionary is launching an exciting new initiative in recognition of Black History Month. Collaborating with a collective of 21 Black-owned brands across fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, we'll be supporting some amazing organizations, from The Loveland Foundation and BEAM (Black Emotional & Mental Health), to The Equal Justice Initiative and Black Girls Code. Each brand has committed to donating 10-20% of their sales this month to a non-profit organization that centers Black communities and resonates with their brand mission. On the REVISIONARY website, you can browse a curated range of products from all of these brands in one place, and you can filter by category or price range.
This February, please consider supporting some of these small, emerging brands by partaking in the initiative and spreading the word. I hope this provides you with an easy, accessible means of amplifying Black-owned businesses and non-profits that center Black communities. The Impact Initiative aims to offer an alternative means of engaging with Black History Month in comparison to the performative marketing campaigns we will inevitably see from big brands and retailers. We encourage you to stay critical and thoughtful when confronted with these campaigns throughout the month.
I'll be following up throughout the month with more in-depth content about our perspective, the participating brands and supported non-profits, and some fun curatorial edits. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy exploring the website!
